With a tripledemic of flu, RSV and COVID-19 sickening people across the U.S., primary care doctors are on the front lines of viral illnesses causing all the misery.
“In my career, I‘ve just never seen a post-holiday outbreak of viral illnesses as significant as we’ve seen this year,” Dr. Gary LeRoy, a family physician in Dayton, Ohio, and past president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, tells TODAY.com.
So how does a doctor surrounded by so many ill patients stay healthy at this time of the year?
Besides staying up to date with vaccines, continuing to mask and frequently washing his hands, LeRoy focuses on a healthy diet to support his immune system. That includes a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables, which are rich in vitamins. He’s also a firm believer in staying hydrated and drinks lots of water throughout the day.
