Hours after polls closed yesterday, dozens of critical House and Senate races remain too close to call, and it could be weeks before control of the Senate is determined if the Georgia race between Republican Herschel Walker and Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock enters a runoff. But it was clear Democrats had held off a so-called "red wave" of GOP victories. One Senate seat changed parties, with NBC News projecting that Democrat John Fetterman defeated Republican TV doctor Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania, which flips a seat held by a retiring Republican. As of early Wednesday, NBC News projects Democrats won 173 House seats and Republicans 198, with 64 races yet to be called. Meanwhile, in Florida, a 25-year-old community organizer won a House seat, making him Congress' first Gen Z member. Get the latest election updates here. 

A young woman's racist attack on a fellow student has shaken the University of Kentucky. 

A white University of Kentucky student who was caught on video yelling racist slurs and assaulting Black students will withdraw from the school, her lawyer said, the latest in a shocking incident that has rattled the university community. Sophia Rosing, a 22-year-old senior, attacked first-year student Kylah Spring in a dorm early Sunday. Viral videos showed Rosing repeatedly calling Spring a racial slur and swinging at her and another student. Rosing was arrested and charged with public intoxication, assault and other offenses. Kentucky's president condemned her behavior, and hundreds of students marched on campus to support Spring, who addressed Rosing in a speech to the crowd. "You will not break my spirit, and you will be held accountable for your actions,” she said. 

A beloved TV weatherman thought he had acid reflux. It was esophageal cancer. 

Rusty Garrett, 67, a now-retired weatherman from KWTX in Waco, Texas, thought he had acid reflux when eating had become more painful. His wife urged him to get checked, and it turned out to be esophageal cancer. Now he's sharing his story to encourage others dealing with a difficult diagnosis. Garrett said swallowing wasn't a problem, but pain down the middle of his chest made him nearly double over, which led him to eat less and shed weight. He is currently undergoing radiation treatment and chemotherapy. Garrett shared the ups and downs of his cancer journey with us, including his ongoing struggles with eating. “When you sit in front of a plate of food and you eat it, you take for granted that you can do it,” he told us. “I need to learn how to appreciate the small things. I’ve learned so much about fighting discomfort. I’m trying to get my mind in a different place.” 

🤑 A winning ticket in the $2 billion Powerball was sold in California. 

The winning numbers in the record-shattering $2.04 billion Powerball lottery were drawn yesterday morning: 10, 33, 41, 47, 56 and the Powerball 10. Did you win? No? Shoot. Well — at least one person did. Lottery officials in California said one person there hit the jackpot with a ticket bought at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, about 15 miles outside of downtown Los Angeles. The jackpot is the largest in lottery history, with the previous record being a $1.5 billion prize split by three winners in 2016.

Nadia Caterina Munno, aka “The Pasta Queen” on TikTok, shared a recipe for her frittata di pasta, a crispy Italian street food that mixes pasta, eggs, salami and cheeses that can be cut into slices and enjoyed on the go. A Philadelphia man captured the hearts (and stomachs) of the city as he ate his way through 40 rotisserie chickens in 40 days. Alexander Tominsky, 31, a restaurant server, went viral both online and in Philly after he tweeted a photo inviting people to join him on his poultry journey. Tominsky first went public on Oct. 8, 11 days into the quest, and went on to post daily photos of his meals, picking up fans and supporters along the way. On the 40th day, dozens of Philadelphians showed up at a pier to cheer him on as he devoured his final chicken and raised the empty plate triumphantly above his head. "Absolute legend," one fan said. "I feel blessed to have been there today."
