President Biden announced yesterday that he will take executive action to pardon thousands of people convicted of marijuana possession under federal law and will ask the Department of Health and Human Services and the Justice Department to review how marijuana is scheduled under federal law. Marijuana is currently classified as a schedule 1 drug under federal law, the same as heroin and LSD. "Sending people to prison for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives and incarcerated people for conduct that many states no longer prohibit," Biden said in a statement.

Brett Cross, whose 10-year-old son, Uziyah Garcia, was killed in the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, has been camped out day and night in front of the town's school district administrative building for 10 days straight as he calls for answers about the shooting. He is protesting the slow release of information and demanding that all school district officers who were present on the day of the shooting be suspended until a third-party investigation into their actions is concluded. "I’m not backing down," he told us. "I'm a pissed-off dad who is going to do everything in his power to not let this happen to another child or another father or another mother.”

Sally Dixon, 58, is urging people to fill in any holes they or their children may have dug at the beach before they leave after suffering “the most horrific physical pain” in her life when she fell into a knee-deep hole in the sand on vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The mother from Georgia is still unable to walk six weeks later after breaking her leg. Her surgery required pins, a plate and four screws, while leaving her with 17 staples in her leg. “I’ve been to the beach a million times with the understanding that everybody knew it was beach etiquette to fill your holes,” she told us. “I’ve never stumbled or tripped over a hole … this could happen to anyone.”

Sarah Pulley knows how exhausting it can be to have a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit because her daughter spent four months in one back in 2018. That’s why the hair salon owner from Indiana is helping sleep-deprived parents with children in the NICU get a little break to rest, grab a snack and get their hair done. She’s pampering parents by running a hair salon inside Ronald McDonald Family Room Maternity Tower at Riley Children’s Health. “You completely lose all sense of yourself when you have a baby in the NICU,” Sarah told us. “My first mom completely relaxed in the chair; she just closed her eyes and breathed. My second was completely exhausted.” She also wants parents to know there can be better times ahead: “There is hope in my story because my daughter is thriving. We made it.”
