Suspect in the racist attack at Buffalo supermarket was previously investigated for making threats at his high school, officials say.

The 18-year-old gunman suspected of killing 10 people and injuring three others in a racially motivated shooting at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo on Saturday was investigated by police last year for making a threatening statement, police said. A community leader and retired police officer are among the 10 people killed by alleged shooter Payton Gendron, police said. The retired officer, Aaron Salter Jr., is being praised for his actions. "He is a hero," the Erie County district attorney told us. 

Another shooting at a church in California killed 1 and injured 5. Congregants, many of them elderly, subdued the gunman. 

Members of a church congregation may have saved lives when they hogtied a shooting suspect with electrical cords to subdue him after the man allegedly killed one person and wounded five others in a shooting Sunday at a Taiwanese church in Laguna Woods, police said. Officials said around 40 people were at the church when the suspect, whom law enforcement sources described to NBC News as an Asian man in his 60s, opened fire during a luncheon honoring a former pastor. 

🍼 The CEO of a large baby formula maker predicts how long the dire shortage could last.

The CEO of Perrigo, one of the big four formula makers in the U.S., said he expects the shortage to last the remainder of the year as parents frantically search for supplies for their infants. The White House has vowed to import more formula from Mexico, Chile, Ireland and the Netherlands. Doctors have warned parents against the dangers of trying to make baby formula at home, while experts recommend these tips for parents struggling to find formula at local retailers. 

🛩️ Exclusive: Passenger with no experience flying who pulled a plane out of a nosedive says he had no time to panic. 

Darren Harrison, 39, spoke with Savannah Guthrie about his heroic act of landing a plane in Florida last week with zero flight experience after his pilot lost consciousness. Harrison recalled thinking, “Either you do what you have to do to control the situation or you’re going to die, and that’s what I did.” He also described staying calm as the small plane nosedived toward the Florida coast. There was "no time to panic," he said.

A three-day search for a Texas woman who had recently been diagnosed with dementia ended in relief thanks to Max, her trusty black Labrador. Max's barking alerted a search team to Sherry Noppe's whereabouts in a wooded area with wild hogs and snakes. They found her just in time, as she was suffering from dehydration and cuts on her body. “We feel like he was awake out there the entire time for three days — wide awake, protecting her,” her daughter told us. Atta boy, Max!
