Every year, Pantone names a color it feels captures the moment and, this year, it’s a color that studies have shown to promote peaceful feelings: blue.

Blue tones had a more soothing effect on people, especially when it was part of their surrounding environments, a recent study found. Those who had the opportunity look at blue landscapes, such as the sea, on a regular basis registered lower levels of stress. One surprise was that the positive effect of green spaces did not appear to be as strong as blue.
