On a hot summer day, what is better than a delicious bowl of ice cream? Not much! Jackie London, nutrition director for Good Housekeeping magazine, stopped by TODAY to share her top tips for making smarter choices. First of all, look for ice creams that are about 150-250 calories per serving. Beware of fruit flavors – some are made from concentrated forms of sugar which can make you thirstier. Finally, consider gelato: Gelato is sometimes made with less cream and more milk than regular ice cream, resulting in a creamier, more dense flavor.

All you have to do is put some flowers on your nightstand. Yes, that’s right: A simple bouquet can help kick start your day.

The Society of American Florists, in conjunction with Nancy Etcoff, an assistant clinical professor in psychology at Harvard Medical School, conducted a six-month study into how keeping flowers in the home can affect your mood. According to their findings, within a week, “feelings of compassion for others” skyrocketed. Plus, their research indicated that keeping flowers around the house can be a serious mood-booster for the rest of your day, even to the point of mitigating workday malaise.
