Beginning a weight-loss journey can be overwhelming, so here’s one tip to remember: Don't give yourself a deadline. When you give yourself a specific date to reach a goal, it often sets you up to fail, says nutritionist Keri Glassman. The stress of the date may work against you and if you don’t see progress being made fast enough, you may say, "Scrap this plan!" even though you’ve actually made excellent progress. Instead, stay calm and healthy on. Patience and consistency are key.

If you want to lose weight, form a habit or start the day with a mood boost, morning exercise is better, says Daniel Pink, author of “When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing.” You get it over with right away, there’s less chance of something interfering with your workout and you have a momentum. But if you want to enjoy your workout more and find it less of a struggle, the late afternoon or early evening is better -- you’re warmed up, leading to a better performance.
